Agreement Makes the Highly Popular Linux Distribution and Systems Management Tool Available for the First Time to Federal Government Customers

CARY, N.C.--Autonomic Resources, an IT and service integration firm serving the U.S. federal government, announced today that the General Services Administration (GSA) has approved the company to offer Canonical’s Ubuntu and Landscape to government customers. The agreement makes Autonomic the Federal reseller/integrator of Canonical Ubuntu and Landscape products. Ubuntu is an ever-popular and fast-growing Linux distribution and Landscape is a systems management and monitoring tool that enables users to manage multiple Ubuntu machines through a simple Web-based interface. The new Landscape release allows IT departments & managers to remotely administer physical or virtual servers within the government and corporate networks and on their private cloud platforms.

Ubuntu, a community-developed operating system, is currently the most popular base operating system for developers focused on delivering Cloud solutions. Cloud computing has gained growing acceptance within the federal government sector due to the current administration’s focus on collaboration, transparency and cost savings. In a recent report from Booz Allen Hamilton, analysts estimate that federal government agencies could save as much as 85 percent of their annual IT infrastructure budgets by moving operations to the Cloud.

“Canonical is delighted to partner with Autonomic Resources in the development of the Federal and Ubuntu desktop community and marketplace,” said Paul Holt, Canonical Corporate Services sales director. “Their experience and skill set makes them the ideal partner to integrate the Canonical support and technology product set with their own open source solutions, adding significant value for both their respective customer and the wider Federal open source community.”

Landscape is the latest tool slated to be offered in Autonomic’s Cloud Computing platform. Autonomic Resource’s Cloud-Platform (ARC-P), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), provides government customers with simplified computing power, storage and supporting infrastructure that can be acquired and utilized on-demand all from FISMA certified data centers with standard multi-factor authentication access. "As adoption of the Cloud continues and the need for simplified infrastructure management grows, organizations will be looking for tools that work for physical and virtual assets,” said Cole Crawford, Autonomic Resources chief technology officer. “Landscape offers a simple, fast and secure solution enabling IT departments throughout the federal government to quickly patch and update systems."
